DUNTON, UK, March 19, 2024 – Ford is strengthening the appeal of its popular seven-seat Tourneo Connect 1,2 multi-activity vehicle by introducing an advanced, segment-first plug-in hybrid powertrain, the company today announced.

The Tourneo Connect Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV) will take Tourneo Connect’s flexibility and versatility to the next level – enabling customers to electrify their driving experience by driving up to a targeted 110 km using pure-electric power, 1,2 and drive with zero tailpipe emissions in Europe’s growing number of low-emission zones.

The new model also completes the electrification of Ford’s exciting new next-generation Tourneo people mover family in Europe, which will also include the compact five-seat E-Tourneo Courier, eight-seat E‑Tourneo Custom 1,3 and nine-seat Tourneo Custom Plug-In Hybrid. 1,4

“Tourneo Connect is all about capability and flexibility, and the new PHEV option adds more of both. Whether doing the school run, going on adventures or even using it as a work vehicle, Tourneo Connect PHEV’s generous electric driving range means that it can electrify many of the journeys in our customers’ busy lifestyles,” said Rich Hughes, Tourneo brand manager, Ford, Europe.

Advanced PHEV technology

The innovative new powertrain in Tourneo Connect PHEV integrates a 1.5-litre EcoBoost petrol engine, high-voltage battery and electric motor to deliver a combined 150 PS and 350 Nm of torque 5 through a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The battery can be fast-charged at up to 50 kW using DC public chargers on long road trips, or fully recharged at home using AC charging up to 11 kW. 6

Easy-to-understand drive modes make it simple for drivers to optimise how battery power is used: 7

  • EV Now: to drive using only the electric motor
  • EV Auto: balances electric and petrol power to best suit driving conditions
  • EV Later: to drive using only the petrol engine, saving all the battery energy for use later
  • EV Reserve: saves a driver-defined level of battery energy for use later
